In a previous blog, (this one) I talked about the need to reprogram our minds because their is truly a default program out there and it is running our perceptions of ourselves (as well as others perceptions of us). You deprogram and then reprogram yourself with a self empowering program by seeking out positive images and information about yourself. Youtube has a wealth of videos dedicated to the beauty of black women and our fave topic, natural hair. It also has a wealth of videos dedicated to the contributions of people of African descent. You no longer have to say where are all the images of me. You can see you in all your splendid glory 24/7.
The following videos are two of my favorites from one of my favorite youtubers. Everytime I view one of his videos, I thank God for making me a black woman and I marvel at God's artistry and how it was applied in the making of us. I feel my power and beauty anew. I'd highly suggest that you subscribe to his channel and check for updates. Excuse his ridiculous user name and just enjoy his awe inspiring, soul fortifying videos.

ReplyDeleteAt the age of 16 I see many people who look down upon them self's as a race or others because of there beautiful black featuers, curly hair, skin tone and even the wayyou speak.. It gets on my nerves so much i don't even wasit my time to speack on the subject. My dad tells me repeatedly "You can't make the blind see what's in front of them until they want to see for them selfs".. when you say deprogram how can a child like myself make sure that my reprograming sequence stays pure to self?

You have to be vigilant in the things you allow into your line of vision and mind. Read books that affirm you. Listen to music that affirms you. Seek out images that affirm you. Do all of this with the express purpose of keeping the default program from being in control of you and installing a pro-you program. As a black woman you have to be vigilant, because so much of what is being shouted at you is to strip you of your internal power and keep you in darkness. Your mind is your own. It is a terrible thing when the mind that should serve you is sick because it was fed a steady diet of lies and negativity.
